10 years ago and while I was exploring the fascinating new technology the internet someone sent me a link of a website .. I clicked on the link and it was a Arabic sports forum, that was the first time I visit an online forum, and while I was navigating the website I noticed that members can write there ideas freely and discuss football with other members! .. I registered in the forum to have that privilege and started writing and it felt great to see everyone reading my posts .. I felt freedom of expression and started to look for similar websites on the web. I found many Arabic forums that talks about Politics, religion, sports, fashion and so many other topics! I was a kid back then and I was only interested in football to be honest, but I noticed that there are thousands of people who write in the Arabic forums, those were the early adopters so most probably there were MILLIONS who just visit those forums to read!

Why most of us Arabs are loyal to those forums?
Most of the writers in forums use nick names and that makes them feel comfortable to speak their minds .. Add to that, through the last 10 years forums communities have grown bigger and better .. and that is why till now the Arabs like to visit, read and write in forums!
I believe that marketers, pr practitioners and social media experts in the Arab world should always remember that forums are still part of the success formula!

are forums part of social media?
I think yes .. I like to define social media as audience-generated media and forums fit that description perfectly!
But who cares if forums are social media or not! It gives power to the people and that what social media is all about!

أمتلك إيمان كبير بـأن تويتر قد يساهم في نهضة عربية كبيرة في جميع المجالات

لذلك قررت أن ابدأ بكتابة مقالات صغيرة عن مميزات تويتر و كيفية إستخدامه الإستخدام الأمثل لتتحقق الفائدة القصوى للفرد و المجتمعات العربية

أولا: ما يميز وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعية بشكل عام بما في ذلك تويتر من وجهة نظر معظم الشركات أن محتواها مولد غالبا عن طريق المستهلك. و من المعروف لأي مراقب أننا نفتقر الى الأبحاث التي تدرس المستهلك العربي .. هنا يأتي دور وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعية لسد هذا الفراغ في الأبحاث

ثانيا: يتساءل الكثير ما الفائدة من الاشتراك في تويتر ولما كل هذه الضجة حول هذه الشبكة الاجتماعية!؟

 يتميز تويتر عن غيره من الشبكات الاجتماعية بأن مجتمعه ينمو بسرعه قياسية حول العالم ومن المعروف أن نقطة قوة أكبر الشبكات الإجتماعية هي عدد المشتركين فيها

محرك بحث تويتر سجل محاولات بحث أكثر من ياهو و بنج مجتمعبن! بمعدل عشرين مليار محاولة في الشهر وهذا إن دل على شيء فإنه يدل على ان تويتر أصبح وسيلة تمتلك مصداقية عالية و أنه يؤثر على إتخاذ مستخدمي الإنترنت على قرارات الحياة اليومية

البساطة المتمثله ب140 حرف جعلت تويتر يعمل بنسق سريع .. المشتركون في تويتر دائما ما يبحثون عن كل ما هو جديد

و أخيرا وليس آخرا انتشار ثقافة تويتر في في العالم العربي ستساعد على انتشار المحتوى العربي على الانترنت بكل أشكاله و سأتحدث عن هذه النقطة بإسهاب أكثر في الأجزاء القادمة

When I started using twitter, social experts loved to talk about that how many followers you have doesn’t really matter if you don’t engage with them in conversations, and how twitter is a great tool for your business to conversate with your target audience.

“It is not how many followers you have that counts it is how many times you get retweeted” I loved that statement back then.

But guess what how many followers you have does matter! Specially if we are talking about professional not personal accounts. When you have more followers you have a wider reach, and the more followers you have the more people will follow you and the more authority you have. Add to that followers don’t always have something to say to you and they don’t always retweet what they like, so this is not the best way to measure your influence!

The followers count proved with time that it is a great way to measure the success of your social media efforts!

However, twitter can be used in many different ways, and to listen to your current and potential customers you don’t have to engage with them in conversations, you can track their conversations and monitor what they say, it all depends on your strategy.

Finally, there is no such thing as one formula for success in twitter!

بين يومٍ وليلة و كالحلم تساقظ روؤساء حكموا بلدانهم لعقود

بين يومٍ وليلة و كالحلم  أصبح الجميع يهتف الشعب يريد إسقاط النظام

ما الذي حدث؟

كيف أصبح المواطن العربي فجأة بين يومٍ وليلة لا يرضى الظلم ولا بهاب أحد؟

هل فعلًا كما يقول الناس الفيسبوك والتويتر واليوتيوب أضاف للناس قوة وشجعهم؟

أم أن الشعوب العربية وصلت إلى مرحلة من الكبت و الظلم الداخلي و أنها كانت ستنفجر حتى ولو لم يكن هنالك وسائل إعلام إجتماعية؟

للإجابة على هذه الأسئلة وجب علينا في البداية تحليل دور وسائل الإعلام الإجتماعية ومن بعد ذلك المقارنة بين الثورات التي تحدث الآن وبين الثورات التي حدتت في الماضي؟

إن أجبنا على هذين السؤالين سيتضح الأمر

أولا وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعية كالفسبوك و التويتر و اليوتيوب جعلت وسائل الإعلام التقليدية كالقنوات التلفزيونية الإخبارية تأخذ دور المتفرج و أعطت الفرد العادي قوة نشر الاخبار إضافة الى أنها وفرت حرية نشر الآراء لأي شخص

ثانيا الثورات القديمة كالثورة الفرنسية التي استمرت عشر سنين و الثورة الإيرانية التي استمرت ستة أشهر كانت تأخذ مدى زمني أطول لتحقق النجاح مقارنة بالثورات العربية الحديثة التي حققت النجاح في مده زمنيه قصيرة جدا

هذا يدل على أن وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعبة تجعل الفرد أكثر تأثيرا و تمنح المواطن العادي صوتا مسموعا كما أنها تعمل كأداة مسرعة للتغير

قبل كل شيْ تحية إلى الشعب المصري العظيم

قال وائل غينم ملهب الثورة المصرية عندما سأله مذيع قناة السي إن إن الأمريكية  في ظل ما يحدث في العالم العربي من تتوقع أن يسقط من الرؤوساء العرب بعد حسني مبارك  .. قال له وائل غنيم : إسأل فيسبوك

وقام وائل غنيم بشكر فيسبوك وقال أنه يتمنى أن يقابل مارك زوكربيرج (مُنشئ موقع فيسبوك أحد أكبر الشبكات الإجتماعية)وقال أنه يود شكره شخصيًا

بعد كل هذا حُقَ لنا أن نُطلق على ثورة ال 25 من يناير ثورة الفيسبوك

The new goal of marketing is to “get found” by customers when they are looking, not “get in their face” when they are not looking.

Back in the days people were not good at listening … They just liked to be heard

Take the production mentality as an example .. people used to produce what they can without asking the consumers if their product is what they really need .. and after that the producers tried to find a way to get rid off what they produced by convincing people that their product is what they need … and that is what we call ladies and gentlemen advertising … do not get me wrong i love advertising and i studied advertising in uni .. what I wanted to say that traditional advertising was the reflection of  the production mentality on communications.

The marketing concept revolutionized the way producers think … so producers started to listen to people before they produce and they started to offer the consumers stuff that they really want and need .. what is sad that producers are still using the same old traditional ways to publicise and  survive in very competitive markets!!! wake up people!! .. Advertising needed a revolution and it got what it needed .. Social media!

Social Media is the best reflection of the marketing concept on communications, so AGAIN for the traditional advertising agencies  Wake UP!

أبسط تعريف لوسائل الإعلام الإجتماعية أو الميديا الإجتماعية أنها تغيير جذري في طريقة إكتشاف الناس للمعلومات والأخبار ثم قرآتها وتبادلها عن طريق إستخدام أحدث التقنيات التي تشمل: المدونات ووسائل تبادل الصور و الموسيقى وغيرها الكثير

إذًا المدونات جزء لا يتجزاء من الميديا الإجتماعية .. المدونات تسمح للجميع بالكتابة والتعليق وهي وسيلة من وسائل الإعلام الجديدة التي تسمح بتبادل الآراء وهي وسيلة جيدة لبناء العلاقات آيضًا

ماهي الطريقة السرية التي تجعل مدونتك حيوية ومليئة بالأفكار الجديدة و المُبتكرة التي ترتقي بعملك .. هل هنالك طريقة واحدة لتجعل محتوى مدونتك ممتاز؟

جوابي على هذا السؤال .. لا!! لا تستغرب .. دعني أكن صريحًا معك .. فخبرتي بالميديا الجديدة و الإجتماعية علمتني أنه ليس هنالك إجابة واحدة أو طريقة سحرية .. هنالك دومًا مجال للتجريب في الميديا الإجتماعية و المغامرة .. لكن سؤالي لك هل تريد المغامرة بعلاقات شركتك بالمستهلكين و القطاعات المستهدفة .. أعتقد أن الإجابة على هذا السؤال لا

إذا دعني أعطيك طرق مُجربة ومضمونه لتجعل مدونت شركتك تنجح نجاحًا باهرًا

أولاً: زود زوار مدونتك بكل ما هو جديد في مجال عمل شركتك .. أعلمهم بمستقبل هذا المجال

ثانيًا: زود عملائك بمواضيع تشمل حلول لمشاكلهم

ثالثًا: أضف بين الحين و الآخر مواضيع لدراسة مشاريع ناجحة قامت بها شركتك

رابعًا: أعلمهم آيضًا بالآخطاء التي يجب آن يتجنبوها حسب خبرة شركتك من دون ذكر آسماء طبعًا

خامسًا: آضف فيديوهات لمقابلات مع عملاء يتحدثون عن تجربتهم الناجحة مع شركتك .. هذه الخطوة تبني كثيرًا من الثقة بين شركتك و العملاء المحتملين أو الشرائح المستهدفه .. تذكر دائمًا أن تنوع في نوعية العملاء في كل فيديو جديد ..

سادسًا: فكر مليًا مع الزملاء في شركتك لإنتاج مواضيع جديدة في مدونتك و ضع خطة مستقبلية لكي لا تتوقف

سابعًا: إشترك في أفضل المدونات الموجودة على الساحة في مجال عمل شركتك .. مدونات الشركات و مدونات الآفراد على حدٍ سواء

ثامنًا: كلف موظفين متحمسين لمجال عمل شركتك للكتابة في مدونة الشركة

كما ذكرت سابقًا هذه الخطوات تم تجريبها كثيرًا و أثبتت نجاحها إلا أن هنالك  مجال للإبداع و الإبتكار دائمًا

Before two weeks Jeff  Leach ,the social media guru and the co-founder of Naked Pizza, gave a presentation in the American University of Sharjah. I attended that presentation and It was very inspiring.

Naked Pizza for those who does not know is a new pizza company that is growing very fast. They opened the first branch in New Orleans .. and they became very popular in the States. They spent million of dollars to come up with a recipe that produce a healthy and delicious pizza.

Jeff started giving lectures in the UAE because they are opening the first branch outside the USA in Dubai. The first thing they did to start a conversation with the UAE people .. they changed their cool original name from naked pizza to NKD Pizza, which I found very smart because people here won’t accept the original name of the restaurant. The Naked Pizza guys took into consideration the cultural sensitivities, and I think this is the first step to start communicating.

One of the questions that one of the student asked was if Naked pizza are going to use traditional media in order to advertise their product and Jeff said that is for sure they are going to use traditional media like direct mailing, but mainly they are going to focus on social media, Twitter. Facebook .. Etc.

I loved when Jeff said “we are not in the pizza business we deliver you a healthy pizza to start a conversation”. THIT IS SOCIAL MEDIA ..  In conclusion, this is going to be a great case study for the cause of better use of social media.

But the recent change that Twitter team did was really great, I feel like I have more control over my Account, I feel like I’m home and that is a feeling that I have only when I open my dashboard on WordPress .. Everything is JUST on the right place  I guess they did a great job ..  This is my first thoughts on that, I didn’t study yet the new design but when I do ima write more about that .. Deuces !!
